Pavel E. Smid pianist and composer began learning to play the piano at an early age. He studied at Reykjavik College of Music, F.I.H music school and finished eighth grade in piano playing from the Royal Schools of Music before he left for the United States. There he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with BM in film scoring and with piano as a principal instrument. Smid was on the Dean's list his entire stay at Berklee and received the Classical Performance Award in recognition of outstanding musicianship. He later graduated with MM from Boston University in composition and music education with highest grades. Smid is currently a Ph.D. Candidate and is expecting to finish his doctorate degree in a few years. Among his teachers were Eric Reasoner (Die Hard 3 Lethal Weapon 4), Gary Chang (Under Siege, Left Behind: World at War), Bruce Katz (Piano),Laszlo Gardony (Piano), Allen LeVines (Composition), Jonathan Bailey Holland (Composition), William G. McManus (Composition/Music Education) og Anthony Palmer (Composition/Music Education).
Smid is a very active pianist and composer and has received numerous awards and honors for his compositions and piano performance. He has performed his own music and the music of others on numerous radio and television stations and he has been a special guest on both Bulgarian and Icelandic television shows. Smid has scored numerous movies which have won several international awards including the Teddy Award at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival.
